A recent email I received from a reader showed her loss of faith and disappointment over the “non-event” that was December 21, 2012. The following is her email:
I have to say I feel like I’ve really lost faith in so many things but most of all I’ve lost my faith. I feel so disrupted with everything that I’ve read and or learned and feel like nothing has changed. Now to hear that it’s only to be worse before getting better and even more disheartening is to know it will be difficult through this lifetime never unveiling this so-called golden age. I feel as if we were fooled. December 21 2012 was yet another great public ploy. Everything supposedly led up to this date…………… Nothing. I feel angry and frankly let down. I don’t know what to believe and what not to believe. People may say, “all your guidance comes from with in and you must learn from that”. To the contrary I went to school to be a nurse, I didn’t just listen from within during meditation and get a job the following day. Is it not taught we must also learn from those teachers who inspire, who are more enlightened than others? Are there not those who spread false information for nothing but financial or selfish gains strictly for themselves? Who do you believe? This all seems so transparent right now. I feel as if I simply no longer believe.
I can understand a side of those who believe in nothingness. Life is nothing more than a game of luck and chance. The cards you get cannot be changed. And the only being looking out for you is you. I suppose that would called atheism. And for the first time in my life, I feel this.
I don’t mean to be a Debbie downer but it all seems false at this moment. I’m tired of being told stuff that is in hindsight is ridiculous. The world is getting worse, our pollution is horrible, this list goes on. It seems to me that all verbiage is changed when an event does not occur. A new date is set. New “prophets” emerge. All keeping us hooked until the next day of nothingness. I’ve read the books. I’ve done research in which so many conflicting points of view weaved nothing but a giant web of confusion leaving the student more dumbfounded and lost.
Truly a different tune for a different day.

Dear Cynthia, I love your email and I’m sure there are many who feel the same. You have stated that there are many conflicting points of view and yes, this is a major source of the confusion right now. I have done my best to let my readers know that nothing particularly “magical” was going to happen on December 21, 2012, and that the “magic” occurs when the individual follows their inner guidance and experiences amazing, favorable synchronicities–as signs from the Divine that they’re on the right path, as well as real, tangible support for their path.
I used to be confused as well, even with a dozen long, channeled, personal messages from the Counsel of Light behind me (channeled from early 2001 through mid-2005). It was only after many months of consistently following my inner guidance (meaning, taking courageous action when I was so prompted) that the puzzle pieces finally began to be pieced together in my conscious mind. The taking of those courageous actions and the insights I received from doing so was necessary to develop the kind of understanding that would no longer be manipulated by others. (This is the major advantage of having a deep understanding that comes from deep engagement and profound personal experience–as compared to having superficial, “book” knowledge.)
Once I published my first book in 2008, I was ready to start writing articles about what I discovered. As part of this process, I read other people’s articles, blog posts and channeled information. I discovered then that much of the information, even information from the big gurus, did not resonate with me; it didn’t resonate with what I had experienced. But even before then, I already knew that I had a huge job (and burden) ahead of me, and that much of what I would share would not necessarily be liked.
I would also not be liked because I knew this “great shift in consciousness” would not be an easy process for anybody to go through, and I knew that no beings were coming to physically help us in any way. I knew that if they helped us by doing things for us, they would cheat us out of discovering for ourselves who we really were and what we were capable of–which was necessary for us to experience firsthand if we were to create a Golden Age. How could we even sustain a Golden Age when the population has not experienced self-actualization and true self-esteem? But of course very few people wanted to hear this.
None of these things made me very popular. Neither my books nor my articles made me popular with many bloggers, reviewers, or readers. I was the brunt of some nasty comments, even from “spiritual” book reviewers, and different forms of online sabotage. In fact I still am. (My friend and personal psychic Pamela Leach says I couldn’t get a better confirmation that I’m on the right track. But that isn’t such a great consolation…) Not long ago another reader commented that she was surprised, considering the quality of my writing, why I wasn’t more popular. Well, there you have some reasons.
I am also disappointed in the non-event that was December 2012, but not because I expected great events to occur. I am disappointed because so few people had actually awakened to the truth, so few people had really “gotten it,” and it was my job to help people awaken, to help them fulfill their higher purpose.
We are indeed entering a Golden Age, but it’s us, as individuals, who are creating it–one step at a time, through our efforts and by following through with our inner guidance. (Which, by the way, helps us deepen the knowledge we have, including knowledge we received in the various schools and programs we attended. We just don’t throw out everything we’ve learned, rather, we gain a deeper understanding of things, including of the process of life.)
Even though it will take some time to transform the entire world, once you as an individual get “on your wave” (and that does not have to take too long), you will have faith in yourself and your life will be transformed. The feelings of despair will dissolve because your understanding of the process going on in your life and in the world has been transformed. (Which will help you have faith in others and the world as well.) All this will help keep you going even though you may still have a rough day now and then.
Of course, having personal experiences of the magic of this process is one thing, and believing it’s true just because someone says so is another. (People say all sorts of things, and much of the information out there is meant to confuse and distract.) This is why I promote my memoir, What Everyone Believed: A memoir of intuition and awakening, not because I make a little bit of money when I sell a copy (although it helps put food on the table)–but because a detailed account of someone’s personal, real life experiences of the process (and the incredible, amazing synchronicities and learning experiences I went through) does offer the seeker much more (in terms of real and tangible support) than someone’s theoretical information, or their promises / predictions, or channelings. Through sharing my personal experiences I offer hope and faith and an understanding that helps others go through their own process with much less pain and more grace and ease.

The one truth that always says it all for me is I must trust in something greater than my own personal feelings. Simply stated I must put all my trust in my Higher Self. (Very Difficult in these latter days)

Have faith that your efforts will make a difference. Search for what inspires you and take the steps to get there. Where will you be 6 months from now, a year from now? I can understand your disappontment and frustration. I did not expect that any major changes would occur on 21st Dec. 2012 and hence was not disappointed or surprised.If anything, this date signifies the beginning of a new era but even this may not be so. I haven’t got a clue and those who say they know for sure waht the future will bring because such ans such entity from the spiritual world has told them so may well be wrong. . It would surely be nice if a Golden Age wa son the verge to materialise on earth – but so many things would have been nice in the past and never occurred. I believe the best way to live ones life is to focus on one’s own “life themes”, what we as a soul came here to achieve for our own soul development. We are not responsible for any other souls lifes – what they do or don’t do, what they learn or don’t learn and hence we can only work on ourselves but we cannot change the world in some kind of miraculous way. We all have a soul plan before we come into an incarnation.. Depending on what we have already achieved in our past lifes and our karma that we bring into this life we all have different issues we need to concentrate on. This is really the job that any soul has. As we are all at different stages of our soul development – some are young and some are old souls the subjects and also the behaviour of people differ greatly. Old souls tend to be interested in spiritual subjects, young souls tend to have very different lifes and often tend to behave in a manner that old souls would call “terrible”. But we also were young souls at one stage – and God knows how evil we behaved. The soul age of all people incarnated gets continuously older and as you may expect “Life on earth” should get better and better but not in any miraculous way. At least this is my believe. So it doens’t help to get frustrated if the Golden Age (whatever this may mean) has not yet arrived. There may or may not come help from the spiritual world in terms of an influx of “Christ energy” as some call it to speed up the process… I don’t know. Generally speaking it is best to listen to your own intution as to how to lead your life. You are the only one who can enrich your life and this depends on your attitude and what you focus on as this is what you will draw into your life. There are a hundred things happening in the world each and every day that one could get angry about – if you do – the universe will provide you with more reasons to get angry. If you however concetrate on what is good in your PERSONAL then the universe will reflect these thoughts and emotions and provide you with more circumstances to be happy about – and is this not what we all are aiming for if we are honest. We all want to be happy, because this feels great. This does not mean that we have to be egocentric. Of course one should try to help and care for others but we are not responsible for their lifes – that is their job. I can strongly recommend the books of Robert Schwarz, which highly resonate with me and who did a great job in researching the Lifeplans we put togerher before we come into an incarnation.
Try to be happy and gratefull for what you have in your life and hope that eventually all beings will have matured in such a way that we can all live in peace and harmony on earth. I believe this day will come – but whether this will be sooner or later – only God knows.
The best you can do for your soul is to fullfill your lifeplan for this incarnation. When things get worse and worse for a long time this is often an indication that one needs to change something. Short term pain is however necessary and an indication that there is something for us to learn from this unpleasant or very sad experience.

Thanks Silke for some great advice! I agree with you about the books of Robert Schwartz, and I have mentioned him in a couple of my articles. In fact, I met him in person in Florida. He was promoting his first book at the same time I was promoting my first book.
In Robert’s book he looks at the lives of 10 different people, and shows how they chose their life plans before they incarnated (their higher self chose their life plans for their personal growth).
Our life plans are not conscious to us. If we were conscious of our soul’s plan, we would not have gotten ourselves into the situations that promised us the most growth; we would have avoided them. Herein lies a clue as to how to reduce the amount of pain we experience from now on—consciously connect with your higher self and follow through with your inner guidance, meaning, take the steps that your higher self is nudging you to take for your growth. Don’t resist or ignore or prolong. If you ignore your inner guidance, the same issues will come up for you over and over again, and it will get more and more painful.
Because of the “great shift in consciousness” (part of which are the understandings I mentioned in the 2 paragraphs above) our pain is reduced in a couple of ways: By knowing that 1. Your life situations are chosen by your soul for maximum growth, not because you are bad or wrong, or because there’s something wrong with you, and 2. Following through with your inner guidance will speed up your growth and make it easier for you, you will see that the Universe will cooperate more, you will place yourself in favorable synchronicities that help your progress and help you fulfill your higher life purpose. Why? Because you doing so supports the Divine Plan to now create a Golden Age (by creating from the Soul, the higher self, the “heart”).
I am aware of many people feeling “let down” after December 21, 2012 or being disappointed that something bigger didn’t happen. There actually was an influx of Light on the days on and around that date, but many people are not tuned into themselves and the energies to feel it yet. That could indicate they have more work to do to deepen their awareness.
My question to people is……what are you doing with your disappointment? Your lack of faith? Are you clearing it, letting it go? Are you doing daily practice to strengthen your faith? If you are a Lightworker or want to be a Lightworker, than it is your job to step up and be a wayshower, even if you don’t have all of the answers at this time. I know I certainly don’t. But I am being the Light everyday, and I am clearing anything (fear, anger,etc) that is not of the Light everyday. As Christine has said, we must live from our Higher Selves and to do this takes quiet time and work, and being determined to listen and develop that inner trust.
There are a large group of Lightworkers that are being negative and this energy is contributing to the darkness surrounding the earth. Lightworkers, step up and being WHO YOU ARE—Beautiful beacons of Light to give hope to a new world!!!!
Thanks Susan, I have found that the best way to “clear the fear” is to follow through with your inner guidance; let me give an example: I had a big fear of not being a good enough writer, especially considering my non-writer background. I had nightmares about it even, where I worried, “What in hell are you doing? You can’t write! This is completely crazy. You were brainwashed into believing you are to write books!”
But I decided to connect with my higher self and follow my inner guidance, for that above any other source would lead me to the Truth, and when I did that I was guided to learn how to write as quickly as possible. I would go to the library and a few times, the books that I needed to look at almost appeared to fall off the shelf as I walked past them. Another time, a good friend recommended another helpful book that helped me streamline the learning process.
Now I have absolutely no fear of writing whereas before, I was almost paralyzed with fear. So I recommend that the best way to clear your fear is to do the thing you most fear, and make sure you are guided by your higher self during that process!

I was also aware many people were expecting great things to happen on 12-21-12 too…and when it was “just another day”, major let-down.
For myself, I reveled into the magic of the day anyway. “Just think, all those years ago, a group of people (the mayans) were aware of the magic of this day too!” 🙂
But, it was subtle and behind the scenes. I marveled at our progress as a species, I marveled at the beauty of all that I imagine must be zillions of universes and beautiful worlds and maybe, some not so beautiful worlds, too. For me, 12-21-12 served as a “marker point” of time. The gateway has closed, but at the same time, it remains open for us to discover what we are made of. Everyone has something special to say and it’s okay to listen to listen to them..except I would caution that you do not extinguish your light for the light of others. (do not pin all your expectations and hopes on the words of others. be your own light). 🙂

At first I was disappointed when nothing seemed to be happening on the Dec.special date…when suddenly a train of thought came into my mind…I was to look at the the date & all that didn’t seem to be happening much the same as when Winter is all around & the calendar date for Spring comes around. There can be snow & storms & at times it seems laughable that it is the first day of Spring….however, Mother Earth as been doing much during the Winter that will not be seen until further in to the Spring season & even sometime later on in the year. I should remember the process that is taking place is on Cosmic time not Human time. This line of thought helped me be at Peace about the whole process. I hope it will be of some help to you.
Thanks Sherri! Yes, the process going on is on cosmic time, and the good news is that the astronomy shows that we are entering greater Light (greater consciousness). And it is this change / shift in our consciousness that will create the changes that will lead to the Age of Light such that it shows up in the physical world around us.
First we change / shift our consciousness, which then changes our behavior, and lastly, it will show up as changes in the outer world.

Cynthia, I agree with all that’s been said, and especially with Christine’s encouragement to “ride your own wave” and Susan’s “Do not pin all your hopes and expectations on the word of others”. Perhaps this is an opportunity to encourage you to seek how to become more inwardly intuitive so you are not carried away with the expectations of the crowds, to obtain more confidence in your personal download from the higher realms. Besides that, our society may have been unable to interpret the significance of the Mayan calendar accurately enough. Our religious and cultural conditioning may have led us to focus on a cataclysmic change or a sudden transformation to a golden age. But the change may be happening more subtly. For instance, there may be an acceleration in the pace at which the fringes of higher consciousness are beginning to penetrate everyday society. The President of the United States mentioned the here and now in his inaugural speech. A new popular magazine called “Mindfulness” will be appearing in April alongside “Men’s Health” and “Ladies Home Journal” at your local mart. Lately I feel compelled more than ever to catch up on loose ends I didn’t grasp before about the theory of consciousness, everything from quarks to Kabbalah. And I am becoming more serious about meditating and exploring different kinds of meditation. I noticed a friend of mine doubled the frequency of his meditation blog in January. Previously there were few if any people in my workplace in the State I live in who were familiar with higher consciousness, but I am starting to hear more about it, like people comparing meditation timers on their smartphone apps. Perhaps it is not a time to lose heart and become skeptical, but a time to be more observant of subtle changes around us.
Hi Robert, while we will not manifest this new world instantly, things are happening relatively very fast right now compared to even 20 years ago–now that we have instant communication and meditation magazines are popping up everywhere. We can all identify with you in many ways. There was disappointment around the globe. But I like the consistent message that Christine has shared on this blog:
Though 2012 represents a shift in consciousness, to focus on an exact date, any date, is to focus without. The true shift happens within.
2012 wasn’t about something for the whole world to see, a global event that would manifest a new age in front of everyone’s eyes. Grand cycles and patterns are never noticeable at one moment in time from an outward perspective. Even those major turning points in American history that we read about in history books were not fully grasped and realized by the people who lived during the event. But in hindsight, when the effects had disseminated across the country, the historians made it conscious for the people in books. The future will look back to 2012 and mark it as a turning point. Keep faith. True conscious change happens in tiny increments for most of us. Those incremental changes seem insignificant and small sometimes, but I promise they are monumental once they all add up. We are all on the journey of Jacob’s Ladder and in hindsight, you will be amazed at how far we’ve come.
Keep meditating, Cynthia. Keep awareness in the present moment. And keep faith. We are all in this together.

I agree with your point about American history, but I do believe that we will see the positive changes faster now than in any other period of history, not just because of our ability to share and communicate information and understanding worldwide instantly, but also because it is the Divine Plan that we manifest this Golden Age now, not 200 years from now. And the faster one connects within and cultivates a strong relationship with one’s higher self such that one follows through with one’s inner guidance promptly and consistently (of course you must learn to distinguish your inner guidance from your mental conditionings and peer pressure), the faster one experiences amazing, eye-opening, heart-warming, and favorable occurrences that show up as one’s own individual “golden age.”

I also echo Cynthia’s sentiments. However, my disappointment is directed at the metaphysical community that took advantage of a momentous evolutionary transition to profit from it, casting shadows and false illusions typical of Science Fiction movies. I personally, as a sensitive, did have an inner transformation and a range of subtle psychic experiences. But this is something that was personal to my own growth and nothing I would broadcast to anyone because it is nothing you can map for everyone. We are unique individuals and therefore, this evolutionary transformation is unique to each person on this planet. But take comfort in knowing that eventually we will begin to synchronize with one another as a race and the changes will become more noticeable.
Hi Orlin, Thanks for your comment. You are correct; it is a unique experience and is determined by the level of an individual’s conscious efforts. It also depends on their higher self’s plan in the larger Divine Plan. In all cases, however, connecting within and following one’s inner guidance is the key.
As I was open to what would occur on 2012 anything from the world ending to the start of the golden age and a thousand more in between the two I was not disappointed and relieved that my kids and I were still here the next day 🙂 Also as I did not want to have the worse scenario come true and it never feel glad that I am still here.:-) Love and light Selina x P.s Look on the bright side life is a blessing x
Can we not just compare this to the seasons?
On December 21st. the days stop growing shorter. Light starts coming back. We can look forward to spring and under the ground and inside the trees all preparations are being made as it were but in our experience it is the beginning of winter. However, spring is on its way and so is this new golden age. It is the same principle. Lots of things are happening, it is just not visible yet and looking at the world things seem to be worse than ever. We should however not let ourselves be fooled by that.
